Eastern Florida State College Women’s Golf Set to Open Fall Season at Dalton State Invitational

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s golf team will open the fall season on Monday at the Dalton State Invitational at Innisbrook Golf Club in Palm Harbor.

The women’s golf team has not played in six months due to COVD-19 and are excited to get back on the golf course for the two-day tournament.

“I am definitely excited, it is something we have been looking forward to, especially with everything going on, we were uncertain when we would be able to play and if we would be able to play at all so going into this tournament, we are really excited,” sophomore Elise Boccabella said.

The women’s team features a lot of new faces as Boccabella and Delia Timpy are the only returning players from last season’s team that had two top-three finishes last fall before COVID-19 canceled the spring season.

“We have three freshmen coming in and having Delia back is going to help us a lot,” Boccabella said.

“It has been great getting to know them all and they all have strengths that are going to help the team in a big way. We balance each other out really well and I think we are going to grow and get better as the season continues.”

The Innisbrook tournament will feature eight teams competing in the first of four tournaments this fall for the women’s team.

Freshmen Gabrielle Fernandez, Kira Shellman, and Olivia Timpy will make their Titans debut at Innisbrook, playing on the same Copperhead course that the PGA players compete on at the Valspar Championship each year.

“The ladies came out playing really well early in qualifying rounds and it will be interesting to see if they can take that to Innisbrook next week,” Eastern Florida State College women’s golf coach Jamie Howell said.

After the Innisbrook tournament, the women’s golf team will play in three tournaments in October. Check out the complete fall schedule here.
