BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA,  FLORIDA – Larry and Sherry Sietsma have been supporters of the Brevard Zoo since, well, before there was a Brevard Zoo.

When the Zoo Founders read about the zoo’s difficulties this year due to coronavirus, they decided to make more than just their usual personal donation.

Avtec Homes, which Larry Sietsma began with his daughter, has signed on as the title sponsor of the signature October event, “Boo at the Zoo.” Special weekend activities begin on October 10 and continue through October 31.

This year, the Halloween-themed family favorite is moving from night to day and changing up for social distancing.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., youngsters can participate in fun activities on the Monarch Migration Trail, embark on a scavenger hunt, pose for themed photo ops, listen to music –and enjoy all of the Zoo animals.

Children 12 and under can pick up a complimentary bag of candy on their way out! All Boo at the Zoo activities are included with general Zoo admission and free for members.

Brevard Zoo Executive Director, Keith Winsten appreciates the ongoing support, particularly during a year of challenges.

“Boo at the Zoo is such a beloved event for the people of Brevard County, and we were really concerned about our ability to make it happen this year because of the financial impact of Covid-19,” said Winsten.

The generous support of Avtec Homes, which is owned by Zoo Founders, has really helped make this possible as a safe, daytime event.

For Larry Sietsma, the ongoing support of the Brevard Zoo was a natural. Avtec’s Eco-Star homes are built with sustainable features consistent with the zoo’s mission of conservation.

“We were happy to be a part of the founding of the Brevard Zoo,” said Sietsma. “And we couldn’t be more proud of the world class resource it has become.

Sponsoring the family-friendly Boo at the Zoo is as exciting for us as it is for the thousands of residents who visit our wonderful zoo each year. It’s a small zoo with a giant impact.”
