POSEY: Congress should immediately investigate the emails

Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) released the following statement concerning the discovery of Hunter Biden’s laptop.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) released the following statement concerning the discovery of Hunter Biden’s laptop.

“The revelation of information contained on a laptop purportedly belonging to former Vice President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden is deeply troubling and raises serious questions about the foreign policy practices of the Obama Administration, and more particularly the practices of then-Vice President Biden.

“Congress should immediately investigate emails detailing what appears to be pay for access schemes cooked up by Hunter Biden and international business associates. Was U.S. foreign policy influenced by these actions? What does Vice President Biden know about these business dealings, and did he benefit financially as suggested in text messages?

“Also, the laptop in question was reportedly in the possession of the FBI since December 2019. I wrote to FBI Director Chris Wray on October 15, demanding answers about why the FBI sat on this information and did not share it with appropriate Congressional committees who have been investigating Hunter Biden’s business dealings. The FBI must offer the public an explanation for concealing its existence from Congressional investigators and those responsible must be held accountable.

“Finally, I have cosponsored legislation (H.R. 8517) to better protect the flow of information on the internet and social media websites to prevent the censorship of political speech and news reporting. I joined my colleague Jim Jordan in cosponsoring legislation to remove the section 230 special liability protections that Facebook, Twitter and other social media monopolies enjoy.

“Years ago, I introduced legislation (H.R. 1020) to require Members of Congress to disclose their family’s overseas business dealings to add more transparency and prevent conflicts of interest like those revealed in Hunter Biden’s emails. Congress should implement this reform. Perhaps if my bill had been the law of the land, this never would have happened.”
