By Space Coast Daily // October 25, 2020
Zeta is 27th named storm of season and earliest in recorded history
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The National Hurricane Center reports that Tropical Storm Zeta developed over the western Caribbean overnight and it is expected to move towards the central Gulf, remaining away from Brevard County.
Unfortunately for the Gulf Coast, Zeta could hit the area as a hurricane late next week.
Currently, the system has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and is nearly stationary, but expected to reorganize and move to the north-northwest later today.
In 2005, Zeta was the furthest into the Greek alphabet the Atlantic season had ever gone. Zeta is the 27th named storm of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season, and the earliest in recorded history.
