BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — Chief Mike Cantaloupe administered the Police Officers Oath to Cocoa’s newest officer Monday afternoon.

Kyle McNamara, 29, took the oath in front of his wife, three sons and his mother-in-law. Members of Cocoa’s City Council and the newly appointed city manager also witnessed the swearing-in ceremony held at the police department.

McNamara was born in Riverside, California and grew up in Big Bear Lake, a small city about 25 miles northeast of the city of San Bernadino.

He served in the U.S. Army from 2012-2016 assigned to 19D Cavalry Scout.

In 2017, McNamara earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational management specializing in public safety management from Eastern Florida State College.

He later returned to California where he served as a firefighter/EMT in 2019. After returning to Florida he enrolled in the Criminal Justice Academy at EFSC where he graduated on October 21st.

McNamara will spend the next few weeks learning the department’s policies and procedures.

He will then be assigned to a field training officer where he will spend several months learning all aspects of the job before being deployed to solo patrol duties.
