BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – I had the pleasure of speaking Saturday at the “Back the Blue Halloween Trunk or Treat” event at the Veterans Memorial Center in Merritt Island.

The event, facilitated by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Disaster Response and Recovery Team/CERT was designed to give kids a safe alternative to trick or treating but also to show the community’s support for law enforcement officers throughout Brevard County.

The special day included resources from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Ag/Marine Unit, Bomb Squad, and Community Relations Unit as well as various participants and businesses throughout the community who made sure that every one of the kids had plenty of treats to take home.

I would like to personally thank Don Pearsall, Dorothy Walsh, the Veteran’s Memorial Center and all the members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Disaster Response and Recovery Team / CERT for making today’s event happen.

– Sheriff Wayne Ivey
