Melbourne Art Festival to Host Holiday Virtual Silent Art Auction Beginning November 26

Silent Art Auction will support the arts and art education in Brevard County

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Art Festival will hold a silent online art auction that will run from Thursday, November 26 through Monday, November 30, 2020.

Timed to coincide with the start of the holiday shopping season, the Virtual Holiday Silent Art Auction will offer hundreds of items donated by artists who have participated in the award-winning Melbourne Art Festival, held each year on the fourth full weekend of April in beautiful Wickham Park.

The Virtual Silent Art Auction, hosted by the website 32 Auctions, will include 2D pieces such as paintings, prints, and photographs; 3D items such as wood carvings, pottery, glass and metal sculptures; and beautiful jewelry including earrings, necklaces, and rings.

Bidders can view, bid on, track, and pay for their favorite art items via a smartphone, tablet, or PC.

Items will be available for pick up by the winning bidders on Saturday, December 5, and Saturday, December 12 at Wickham Park from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM outside at the Regional Pavilion.

Masks, Social Distancing, and other CDC recommended safety precautions will be in place. Other picks up times may be scheduled depending on needs.

Earlier in the year, the 2020 Melbourne Art Festival in Wickham Park was canceled due to Covid-19 safety precautions.

The organizing committee, which hosts a live silent auction every other year, got creative when it became apparent that the pandemic would force the cancelation of this year’s live art auction too.

“Art fans throughout the area love attending the live auction that includes food, beverages, and live entertainment,” said Johana Gant, President of the Melbourne Art Festival.

“When it looked like we couldn’t safely host the live auction, we looked at online options and are now very excited about this year’s event.”

If visitors see art items they wish to bid on, they can create a free account to bid on and track their favorites. They will be notified via email if someone else raises the bid or when they win the item.

There is also a proxy bid option that enables bidders to establish their ‘max bid’ and the system will increase the bid automatically.

Following the Melbourne Art Festival Holiday Virtual Silent Art Auction, the 100 percent volunteer MAF Committee will start planning and preparation for the 36th Annual Melbourne Art Festival that will be held outside among the trees and lakes at beautiful Wickham Park in Melbourne on April 24 and 25, 2021.

The annual festival, which draws art and music lovers from throughout Central Florida, is a vibrant family-friendly event that promotes and encourages artistic endeavors, education, and appreciation of the arts in Brevard County.

Planning for the 2021 event will include COVID-19 safety precautions including offering additional space, hand sanitizing stations, and other CDC recommended safety precautions for outdoor events.

Proceeds raised during the art auction and art festival are used to encourage and support the arts and art education in Brevard County; offer Student Scholarships to junior high and high school students for art classes and camps, and fund other educational art efforts and local art organizations.
