BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay Police Department’s November Volunteer Cop of the Month is Ken Nye.

Nye spent 5 years as a snowbird before moving to Florida 15 years ago from western New York.

He had been an over the road trucker hauling regular loads in and out of the New York City area for 25 years.

Not one to sit still, he cares for the maintenance at the RV park where he enjoys “glamping” in his 27-foot RV with his significant other of 22 years and his dog, Penny.

Nye’s family also includes 4 children, 12 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. He loves to help anyone in any way he can which is why he is such a great VCOP.

He spends most of his time on patrol keeping a watchful eye on the community, but he also fills in at the front desk when needed. Monitoring the crowd at the Palm Bay Christmas Parade has been a highlight of Nye’s time as a VCOP.

If you would like to become a VCOP, send an email to VCOP@palmbayflorida.org or call 321-953-8987.
