BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Rockledge Raiders game against DeSoto County on Friday has been cancelled due to lack of players on the roster for DeSoto County and players safety.

Rockledge will receive the win as DeSoto County called for a forfeit of the matchup due to the extreme talent gap between the two squads, according to the DeSoto County coach.

DeSoto County (0-9) claims the talent gap with Rockledge was too extreme to play the game.

Speaking to YourSun.com, DeSoto County Head Coach Bumper Hay knew his team would be at an extreme disadvantage.

“We haven’t had practice all week and they (FHSAA) want us to take an 0-9 JV team to play a state championship contender. The outcome probably isn’t gonna be great.”

“We just didn’t have enough,” said Coach Hay when talking about the number of players on his roster.

“We had some parents concerned because we have so many young kids and Rockledge has 11 D-1 commits. Parents were concerned about their kids’ safety.”

Rockledge will move on to the quarterfinals of the playoffs as they await the winner of the Estero and Cape Coral game on Friday. Rockledge will be the road team against whoever wins the Estero and Cape Coral game.

The quarterfinals game is set for November 20 at 7:30 p.m.
