Cocoa Police Investigate Shooting Death of 2-Year-Old Boy Monday Morning

Shooting does not appear to be intentional, detectives are investigating exactly what occurred

Cocoa Police are currently investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy who was shot early Monday on the 1600 block of Owasso St in the Sunrise Village mobile home community.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police are currently investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy who was shot early Monday on the 1600 block of Owasso Street in the Sunrise Village mobile home community.

Police say the shooting happened around 7:30 a.m. when dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a neighbor on Owasso Street screaming and holding a small child who had been shot.

When the first officer arrived on scene, he immediately began life saving measures including CPR.

The boy was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses in order to determine the sequence of events and what led to the fatal shooting.

According to preliminary witness statements, there were several male juveniles in the home visiting with their friends.

At some point during the visit, one of the males was actively displaying a firearm when it discharged and struck the child. All of the males fled the home.

Police say the shooting does not appear to be intentional and detectives are currently working to determine exactly what occurred.

A crime scene technician is processing the scene and gathering physical evidence as the shooting is still under investigation.
