BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Solar Bear New Year’s “Run and Plunge” is set for January 1 from Front Street Park and includes three-course options this year.

Option 1: 5 Mile. This is the main event. Regardless of which course you choose, plan to arrive at Front Street Park by around 11:45 so you can run the first (or final) 5 miles from Front Street Park over the causeway and arrive as a large group at Ocean Park Beach.

This is a point to point run. It starts at Front Street Park in Melbourne and ends beachside at Ocean Park in Melb Bch.

If you choose the 5 milers, Click here to make transportation arrangements.

Option 2: 19 Mile. Ring in 2019 the right way! To run 19, you will start at Ocean Park on the beach, and run 14 miles beachside to Front Street Park, then you will run the final 5 miles from Front Street back to the beach.

Plan your time accordingly. You want the first 14 miles completed so you arrive at Front Street around 11:45.

Paced groups feel free to post your 14 mile start time so others may join.

Option 3: 10 Mile. This is out and back. To run 10, you will start at Ocean Park and run the main Solar Bear Course beach to Front street, join the main event group at 11:45 and complete the final 5 miles from Front Street back to Ocean Park on the beachside. Follow the 5-mile course in reverse for the first 5 miles.

■ For the Main Event – the Final 5: The idea is to keep a casual pace so the entire gr0up runs the course somewhat together and arrives at the beach together.

Once at the beach, all Solar Bears are encouraged to take a plunge in the chilly Atlantic Ocean. (Spoof on the Northerners).

Wear your New Year’s Attire: Party Hats, Noisemakers and foolery encouraged.

Bring a beach chair, towel and consider something to share at the finish.

There will be water along the course, and some light refreshments at the finish provided by whoever brings them to share.
