Eastern Florida State Baseball Team Gets First Win After Edging Polk State College 4-3

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College baseball team held off a late Polk State College rally to pick up the 4-3 victory Tuesday evening at Bruce Bochy Field on the Melbourne campus.

Titans starting pitcher Tyler Vogel tossed five dominating innings, allowing one run on one hit, and struck out six to pick up his first win of the season.

Polk State College scored first in the fifth inning after Vogel walked Jack Duffy who stole second base and scored on George Davis’ double, the only hit off Vogel.

The lead would not last as the Titans got things going fast as Tyler Isenberg singled to lead off the inning. AJ Mathis drew a walk and Garrett Evans bunted for a single to load the bases. Kaeber Rog would tie the game with an RBI single and then Kyle Dentmon gave the Titans a lead with a two-run single.

The Titans extended the lead to 4-1 in the eighth when Nathan Housen blasted his first home run of the season off the scoreboard.

With two runs in, two runners on, and two outs, Dominic Baratta came out of the bullpen and struck out Nick Collins to end the game. Overall, five pitchers combined to allow three runs on four hits and struck out 13 hitters.

The Titans will travel to the College of Central Florida on Wednesday for a 1:30 p.m. game. The Patriots are 4-0 and ranked 18th in the NJCAA Division I poll as well as No. 1 in the NJCAA Region 8 Coaches Poll.
