BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College softball team opens the regular season with seven games this weekend at the JUCO Kickoff in Clearwater.

The Titans will open the weekend Friday with games against Gulf Coast State College and Georgia Military.

The season opener against Gulf Coast, who is ranked No. 10 in the NJCAA Region 8 coaches poll, will begin at 3 p.m. at Eddie C. Moore Complex. The Titans will then play Georgia Military at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday the softball team will open the day at 11 a.m. against the State College of Florida Manatee who is No. 9 in the Region 8 poll.

Then at 4 p.m. the team will play Georgia Highlands before facing No. 1-ranked Florida Southwestern at 6:30 p.m. FSW is ranked No. 1 in both the state and national polls.

In the final day of the tournament, the Titans will play Louisburg College at 8:30 a.m. and then wrap up the weekend of games with St. Petersburg College at 11 a.m.

“We face some teams who are ranked in the state and then, of course, we face Florida Southwestern who is No. 1 in the nation so opening weekend we will get a good sense of where we stand,” Eastern Florida State College softball coach Jim Beitia said.

“It’s interesting, we will get to see how teams have been able to prepare with limited practices and scrimmages due to Covid.”

The Titans have five players returning from last season’s team that won 22 games before Covid-19 ended the season.

“We are looking forward to starting the season. We are ready to put on the game uniforms,” Beitia said.

The softball team will have three road games before the home opener on Feb. 13 against Santa Fe Colle.
