Panthers went 6-2 with two top-15 wins before season was canceled
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech women’s lacrosse team enters the year ranked No. 18 in the country, as announced in the 2021 Nike/US Lacrosse Division II Women’s Preseason Top 20.
Head coach McKenzie Rafferty returns 10 starters and 82 percent of the points production from the 2020 team. The Panthers went 6-2 with two top-15 wins before the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tech returns a pair of 2020 All-Americans in fifth-years Alexis Townsend and Mollie Kaplan, who were the top two leading goal scorers and combined for 61 points a season ago. US Lacrosse Magazine recently tabbed Kaplan a preseason All-America for 2021.
Back to guide the defense is fifth-year Olivia Going, a three-time All-Sunshine State Conference first-team selection, who led the SSC in caused turnovers during the shortened 2020 season.
The SSC placed three other teams in the preseason Top 20, including Rollins (No. 7), Tampa (No. 9), and Florida Southern (No. 12).
