Former Rockledge Resident George Edward Cassidy Passed Away January 1 at Age 85

George Edward Cassidy, age 85 of Ellicott City, and formerly of Buffalo, New York and Rockledge, Florida, passed away from complications of dementia on Friday, January 1, 2021, at Copper Ridge in Sykesville.

George Edward Cassidy, age 85 of Ellicott City, and formerly of Buffalo, New York and Rockledge, Florida, passed away from complications of dementia on Friday, January 1, 2021, at Copper Ridge in Sykesville.

Born November 29, 1935, in Plattsburgh, New York, he was the son of the late Herman James Cassidy and the late Marjorie O’Brien Cassidy.

He had been a social worker and foster care intake worker for thirty-five years in the New York State Division for Youth and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. George was a graduate of St. Bonaventure University.

He was a life long sports fan but became an avid softball and tennis player during his retirement years. He also enjoyed traveling during his retirement years and visited many countries including Panama, Mexico, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. However, what he treasured the most were the friendships he made while living in Florida, Mexico and Costa Rica.

Surviving are his son Dennis Cassidy, brother John Cassidy and his wife Barbara, Sister-in-law Linda Cassidy, Sister-in-law Mary Cassidy, Brother-in-law Ed Lalor, and grandson Ryan Cassidy.
He was predeceased by his son Kevin Cassidy and siblings Patrick Cassidy, James Cassidy, and Sharon Lalor.
