Titusville Man Found Dead on Sidewalk Has Been Identified, Woman Shot Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries

Titusville Police have released the identity of the man shot dead on the sidewalk near the South Grannis Ave. and Tropic St. early Wednesday morning.

BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Titusville Police have released the identity of the man shot dead on the sidewalk near the South Grannis Ave. and Tropic St. early Wednesday morning.

Authorities have identified the victim as 40-year-old Darius Antwan Smith, 40, from Titusville.

The shooting incident also critically injured a woman after she was also shot in the incident.

Police say the shooting incident happened on Wednesday, January 20, when police first responded to a report of a shooting near the intersection of South Grannis Ave. and Tropic St. around 4:30 a.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, Smith was found lying dead on the sidewalk with an apparent gunshot wound.

The woman who was with him was also found close by and transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries due to an apparent gunshot wound.

According to the preliminary investigation, the suspect(s) fled the scene immediately after shooting the man and woman.

The suspect(s) are still at large.

Initial evidence indicates the victims were specifically targeted by the suspect(s), and that this was not a random act of violence, according to police.
