Merritt Island Teen girl critically injured, Second Merritt Island Teen Girl Dies in Crash

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle wreck on I-95 in Palm Bay on Monday morning  that has claimed the life of a 17-year-old female from Merritt Island and injured two others.

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle wreck on I-95 in Palm Bay on Monday that has claimed the life of a 17-year-old female from Merritt Island and injured two others.

The two people injured are identified as a 17-year-old female from Merritt Island, who is listed in critical condition. The other person injured is identified as a 20-year-old male from Palm Bay, who is listed in serious condition.

The Florida Highway Patrol investigation reveals a Kia Optima, driven by the 20-year-old male, was traveling northbound around 9 a.m. on I-95 near mile marker 177 when he abruptly changed lanes and struck the rear end of a second vehicle.

The impact caused the driver of the Kia to leave the roadway and struck several trees off I-95.

The driver of the second vehicle was not injured and has been identified as a 37-year-old male from Fellsmere.

Due to a recent order by the State of Florida, crash victims’ names will not be revealed by Florida Highway Patrol to protect their identities and their families.
