BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – After careful deliberation, in consultation with the Brevard Department of Health, the Superintendent has made the decision to close the North/Central Alternative Learning Center (North ALC) to students.

As a result of COVID-19 cases and to prevent further spread of the virus, the closure began today and will run through Friday, February 19th.

All students currently participating in brick and mortar instruction will be moved to eLearning from home. Families are being notified of the closure and should NOT have their child attend school in person the rest of this week.

Cleaning of the facility has already started and a deep cleaning will take place this week. Essential staff including office, custodial and cafeteria employees will report to work tomorrow.

Instructional staff has been directed to conduct remote instruction from home for the rest of the week.

All other BPS staff not associated with the North ALC are to report to their work site tomorrow.

The Department of Health does not recommend the entire facility be shut down since the illness is isolated to the ALC.

School and district staff will continue to monitor the situation, but as of right now the school is planning to return to normal operations on Monday, February 22, 2021.
