Eastern Florida State Volleyball Defeats Palm Beach State College in Four Sets

Titans improve to 2-0 in conference play

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College volleyball team improved to 2-0 in conference play for the first time in the past five seasons on Thursday night.
The Titans defeated Palm Beach State College 25-18, 25-18, 20-25, 26-24 on the road to improve to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Conference.
Eastern Florida State College looked sharp for much of the first two sets, falling behind 6-3 in the second set and it stayed close until Maredis Colon served leading 10-8. The Titans would win the next seven points to take a commanding 2-0 lead In the match.
The Titans led early in the third set, but Palm Beach State College would go on a seven-point run to take a 16-11 lead. They would stay out front and take the third set 25-20.
It looked as if the Panthers may tie up the match, leading by as many as four points but the Titans would come back to tie the match 16-16 and again 18-18.
Palm Beach State would hold off the Titans first chance to win, leading 24-23 and tied the match 24-24. But a couple of big blocks gave the Titans the 26-24 win in the set and the match.
Colon finished with 15 kills and 10 digs while Giselle Giraud had 14 kills and 12 digs in the match. Setter Amanda Cruz had 29 assists in the match.
Eastern Florida State College snapped a three-game losing streak against Palm Beach State College with the win.
The Titans will travel to South Florida State College at 5 p.m. Friday before hosting Miami Dade, the No. 1 team in the nation, Tuesday night at Titan Field House. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
