BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Palm Bay Magnet High School has named former Space Coast Vipers Head Coach Jake Owens the new head coach for their football program.

“I’m honored and proud to be named the new head football coach at Palm Bay Magnet High School,” said Owens

Last year, Owens worked on the Merritt Island Football coaching staff under Mustang head coach Hurlie Brown.

During his tenure as Space Coast head coach, their best season featured a 7-4 overall record in 2013, including a second playoff appearance in program history. Owens resigned as the Space Coast head coach in 2017 to take some time from coaching but returned in 2020 to coach at Merritt Island as an assistant

Owens takes over for Dwayne Byrd who resigned as the Palm Bay head coach in December to spend more time with family.

Byrd finished with a combined overall record of 3-14 in two seasons with the Pirates.
