BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Juvenile green sea turtles Tiny Tim and Bob were released on Friday afternoon after two-month rehabilitation stints at our Sea Turtle Healing Center.

Tiny Tim was returned to the ocean in Cape Canaveral, while Bob was released in the Indian River Lagoon in Titusville an hour later.

Tiny Tim arrived at the Healing Center on December 16 after being found struggling to escape from a fishing line attached to rocks at Jetty Park in Cape Canaveral.

This sea turtle had an older, healed injury on their carapace; and initial radiographs revealed a bone infection in their front left flipper, which we treated with medication. Tiny Tim was also given nutritional support and fluids before being cleared for release.

Also stranding in Cape Canaveral, Bob came to us on December 4 with older shell fractures as well as two fresh abrasions on their front flippers. (Brevard Zoo image)

Also stranding in Cape Canaveral, Bob came to us on December 4 with older shell fractures as well as two fresh abrasions on their front flippers. This sea turtle was given nutritional support and fluids and treated for bone and parasitic infections before being deemed releasable.

All seven of the world’s sea turtle species are threatened by human hunting, entanglement in fishing equipment, marine debris, shrinking beaches, pollution, and climate change.

If you find a distressed sea turtle in Brevard County, call Sea Turtle Preservation Society at 321-206-0646 or Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at 1-888-404-FWCC.
