SCAM ALERT: Agents with the Cocoa Police Special Investigations Unit received information Wednesday regarding an individual impersonating a police officer using an account on Cash App.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Agents with the Cocoa Police Special Investigations Unit received information Wednesday regarding an individual impersonating a police officer using an account on Cash App.

According to Cocoa Police Public Information Officer Yvonne Martinez, the account holder identifies himself as an investigator with the Cocoa Police Department.

“The fake officer solicits money in exchange for dropping criminal cases,” said Martinez.

“The impersonator uses a caller ID spoof app to make it appear the contact is coming from an agent with the Cocoa Police Department.”

The public should not respond to these solicitations. The Cocoa Police Department does not use Cash App and never solicits money in exchange for dropping cases.

This activity is fraudulent and the person responsible is committing felony crimes.

Agents are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cocoa Police Department at 321-639-7620 or send a text or email to dropadime@cocoapolice.com
