Two Pedestrians Killed in Hit-and-Run on State Road 528 in Merritt Island, Driver Arrested

Two pedestrians were killed early Monday morning on State Road 528 near mile marker 49, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Two pedestrians were killed early Monday morning on State Road 528 near mile marker 49 in Merritt Island, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Authorities identified the victims as a man and a 42-year-old woman from Cape Canaveral. The man has yet to be identified by Florida Highway Patrol.

The preliminary investigation shows a 2003 Ford Taurus was traveling eastbound on SR-528 when he hit two pedestrians walking/ standing on the shoulder.

The impact killed both pedestrians.

The driver of the vehicle, a 39-year-old Merritt Island man, claims he left the scene because he did not have cell service after crash.

As a result, the driver called authorities from his house and was later taken into custody.

The driver has been charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash and DUI.

Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
