BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s golf team won the Glenakes Invitational Tuesday in Foley, Alabama.

The Titans shot a final round 289 to win the tournament with an 8-under 856 for the tournament. Central Alabama CC shot the best round of the tournament, a 279 to finish second at even-par 864.

“Good job by the team today. We got off to a slow start and Central Alabama made a big push,” Eastern Florida State College men’s golf coach Jamie Howell said.

Freshman Matt Gauntlett won his first individual title, making a par on the par-5 playoff hole to top Central Alabama’s Hayden Carner for the top spot. Gauntlett shot a 2-under 70 in the final round to finish at 210.

Teammate John Houchin placed third overall with an even-par final round and finished 5-under 211 for the tournament.

Drew Lanier placed sixth overall at 1-over 217 and Pontus Torgner was tied for eighth at 221. Brandon Boncore placed in a tie for 18th overall.

“Matt made a good comeback to win medalist honors, John was steady all day and likewise for Drew. Pontus and Brandon hung in there and proved that fourth score can make all the difference on a day like today,” Howell said.
