Eastern Florida State Softball Sweep Doubleheader Against St. John’s River in Thrilling Fashion

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College softball team swept a doubleheader with St. John’s River in thrilling fashion Tuesday night at Titan Softball Complex.
The Titans came back in the seventh inning and went on to win the first game 5-4 in eight innings and then 4-3 in nine innings.
In Game 1, St John’s River took a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning but Molly Reid led off the inning with a double and went to third on the throw. Reid would score on Lauren Fortunato’s sacrifice fly to centerfield to make it 4-1.
Then in the bottom of the sixth inning, Alyssa Agrippa doubled and pinch-runner Sarah Leach would score on Meritxell Blesa’s single to make it 4-2. Once again Molly Reid ripped a double, this time driving in Blesa to make it 4-3 but could not tie the game.
The Titans would tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, Agrippa drove in Kayla Domon with the tying run with two outs.
Then in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Titans would pick up the win on Fortunato’s RBI single.
Reid and Lauren Lightbody each had three hits in the game. Shaniyah Pope picked up the win, allowing one earned run, and struck out four in eight innings.
In the second game, Kayla Domon walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Titans the win.
Eastern Florida State College improved to 16-10 on the season and has won three straight. The Titans are scheduled to play a doubleheader Thursday against Bryant & Stratton beginning at 4 p.m.
