CENTRAL FLORIDA, USA – Just after 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Allen and Auxiliary FHP Trooper Pete Christie assisted in delivering a healthy baby girl in the darkness on the side of eastbound State Road 414.

According to FHP spokesperson Lt. Kim Montes, the Troopers were patrolling on State Road 414 when Trooper Allen observed an SUV traveling eastbound at 83 mph in a posted 50 mph zone.

“Trooper Allen initiated a traffic stop and immediately noticed a male driver frantically waving his arms outside of the window,” said Lt. Montes.

“Trooper Allen and Trooper Christie approached the vehicle and were informed that the woman in the front right seat was in active labor.

“After calling for EMS, the troopers and dad tried to assist the man’s wife in remaining calm. As the woman’s labor quickly progressed, they decided to have her exit the vehicle and lay on a blanket, in the grassy area.

“Minutes later, a healthy baby girl arrived into the world. Dad was able to catch the baby and then handed her off to Trooper Allen.

“Trooper Allen cleared the baby’s airway and she began to cry,” said Lt. Montes.

EMS arrived on scene and took the mother and her new baby to the hospital with dad and the newborn’s big sister following in the SUV.

“The Florida Highway Trooper extends its best wishes and congratulations to the family on their new addition,” said Lt. Montes.
