BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – The Palm Bay Police Department has honored Eva Evans as the 2020 VCOP of the year.

Evans was a captain in the United States Army for 6 years, a grade-school teacher for 14 years and an elementary assistant principal for 5 years.

She joined the Palm Bay Police Department VCOP program in December of 2019 and immediately started assisting with the Senior Santa initiative.

From the start, she volunteered to work extra shifts, always asking to do more. She was appointed front desk manager in April of 2019. She was always making suggestions to improve our program and looking for ways to assist.

After her front desk duties, she took on extra hours in the office.

“She is very proficient in numerous computer programs and has been instrumental in revising and organizing our forms and training information,” said Palm Bay police officials.

“She was trained in patrol over the summer and now goes out on the weekends with her son, Brian.”

With her appointment to Administrator in August, Evans took on more jobs and responsibilities, including scheduling VCOP meetings, events and tasks.

“She juggles front desk duties and patrols manning,” said Palm Bay police officials. “She is truly a team player and helps everyone. She is a valuable asset to the VCOP program. In 2020, she gave 790 volunteer hours to this agency. For these reasons and more, she is our VCOP of the Year for 2020.”
