Six Eastern Florida State College Players Named to All-Southern Conference Volleyball Team

state tournament begins March 25 at Florida State College in Jacksonville

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A pair of Eastern Florida State College women’s volleyball players were named to the All-Southern Conference first team.

Sophomore Maredis Colon and freshman Giselle Giraud made the first team and Anaeli Perea, Cassandra Gregory, Amanda Cruz and Desiree Cruz were named to the second team.

“I am so proud of my athletes and the fact that six of them have been named to the all-conference team,” Eastern Florida State College volleyball coach Carmelo Eleutiza said.

“I give each athlete credit for all their hard work and dedication to our team this season. Beyond proud of them for representing our school.”

Colon is 10th in Region VIII in kills with 168 in 14 matches and also has 139 digs this season. The outside hitter from Bayamon, Puerto Rico is averaging 3.05 kills per set this season and has 11 blocks.

Giraud is ninth in Region VIII in kills per set, averaging 3.3 kills per set and has 163 kills in 49 sets this season. The outside hitter from Orlando also had 147 digs and nine blocks.

“I am so proud to have Giselle and Gabby (Maredis Colon) be named to the first team,” Eleutiza said.

“They have been leaders on our team this season statistically and game changers when the game is on the line. They deserved to be recognized for their efforts and success this season. We are lucky to have them as a part of our program and are excited to see what the future holds for Giselle next season with us and Gabby in her next endeavor.”

Perea, the sophomore libero from Anasco, Puerto Rico, has 170 digs this season.

Gregory, a sophomore outside hitter from Wellington, Florida, has 90 kills, 143 assists, 112 digs and 21 blocks this season.

Amanda Cruz, a sophomore setter from Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico, has 290 assists which is eighth in Region VIII and also has 112 digs.

Desiree Cruz, a sophomore middle hitter from Humacao, Puerto Rico, is 13th in Region VIII with 30 blocks and has 95 kills this season.

The Titans will wrap up the regular season Thursday against South Florida State College at Titan Field House.

It will be Sophomore Night for the team who qualified for the state tournament which begins March 25 at the Florida State College at Jacksonville.
