Dana White expects full capacity with 15,000 fans in the arena

JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA – UFC President Dana White announced late Monday night that UFC 261 will take place on April 24 in Jacksonville at the VyStar Veteran’s Memorial Arena with a ‘full house’ expected for the event.

The UFC announcement is significant and timely just as the Texas Rangers announced last week that they would be at full capacity for their April 5 Opening Day game in Arlington, Texas. The first American sports team in any sport to go full capacity since last year’s COVID-19 lockdown.

“I have been waiting a year for this day to tell you, we are back,” White said in a video.

The UFC fight card will headline a rematch between welterweight champion Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal, along with two other title fights that include UFC strawweight champion Zhang Weili putting her belt on the line for the second time when she squares off with former champion Rose Namajunas. Zhang was part of the Fight of the Year in 2020, defeating another former champion in Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

The UFC hopes she brings that same magic against Namajunas, another fan favorite.

The third championship bout pits flyweight titleholder Valentina Shevchenko against top contender Jessica Andrade.

Tickets will go on sale in the coming days. Stay tuned for more details.
