BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech’s 18th annual Chopper Dropper fundraiser will be streamed live starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 12, and offer participants an opportunity to win a $50,000 grand prize and 16 other cash prizes.

The event is the university’s annual fundraiser for its 18 varsity sports programs and more than 450 scholar-athletes.

Chopper Dropper involves dropping 2,000 numbered golf balls from a helicopter onto Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field at Florida Tech. The ball that ends up closest to a golf flag implanted there wins the $50,000 grand prize. There is also a $10,000 second prize and 15 $1,000 prizes, as well.

Print-at-home tickets are available for a suggested donation of $100 each at www.chopperdropper.com.

That site is also where the event, given pandemic safety protocols, will be live-streamed starting at 5:30 p.m., with the ball drop happening around 6 p.m.

In-person attendance is not allowed.

Florida Tech President Dwayne McCay will announce the winners live immediately after ball distances from the pin are measured.

A Florida Tech representative will call winners after the virtual event.
