BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce President & Chief Executive Officer Jennifer Sugarman has been accepted into the Air and Space Forces Civic Leader Program.

The program is a Department of the Air Force program whose membership is comprised of respected community leaders selected from the Air and Space Forces major commands/units, National Guard Bureau, and Headquarters Air Force.

A letter signed this week by the Secretary of the Air Force, the Chief of Staff of the Air Force and the Chief of Space Operations made Sugarman’s invitation into the Program official, to which, she gratefully accepted.

“Patrick AFB and USSF have spoken very highly of Sugarman’s contributions to the Department of the Air Force and within her local community,” said Pamela Friend, Air Force Civic Leader Program Manager.

“Acting Secretary Roth, General Brown and General Raymond believe that Sugarman’s experience, knowledge and candor will greatly benefit both the Air and Space Force when asking for ideas and feedback on ways we can be better neighbors, support our service members and their families, and serve our nation.”

As a Civic Leader, Sugarman’s primary responsibility will be to serve as an interface between the civilian community and the military.

“I am both honored and humbled to have been selected as an Air and Space Force Civic Leader,” said Sugarman.

“My commitment to our local military installations and the men and women that serve our great nation remains steadfast and I am eager to contribute to this group of leaders in a positive and meaningful way. The Chamber’s Military Affairs Council (MAC) has been supporting active-duty military and their families for nearly four decades and I am looking forward to escalating that support to the next level as a Civic Leader.”

The Air and Space Forces Civic Leaders are unpaid advisors, key communicators, and advocates for Department of the Air Force issues.

They provide ideas and feedback to advise the Secretary of the Air Force, Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Chief of Space Operations, and Air and Space Forces senior leaders about how missions can best be accomplished in their respective areas and about public attitudes toward the Department of the Air Force and activities in their areas.

Timely and pertinent information is provided to Civic Leaders on subjects of general Department of the Air Force interest, especially subjects that have particular application in a Civic Leader’s local area.

Air and Space Forces Civic Leaders are asked to serve for four years in a “current” status but the Department of the Air Force has the option to extend them additional terms if it is mutually beneficial. Thereafter they serve as a Civic Leader Emeritus.

Both Current and Emeritus Civic Leaders serve as Air and Space Force advocates and provide support to our military and their families through their outreach efforts.

Program members meet up to three times a year, once in Washington D.C. and one or two times at an Air and/or Space Force location around the country. Civic Leaders will attend a virtual conference in the coming year.
