Florida Tech Men’s Rowing Team Places Second at Canal 54 After Year Hiatus

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Florida Tech men’s rowing team got its first taste of action as they welcomed Jacksonville on a windy Saturday morning at Canal 54.

It was the crew team’s first regatta in 392 days and included two sets of races between the Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 boats.

Jacksonville’s V1 won the Varsity 8 race wire-to-wire finishing the 2,000 meters in 6:34.40. Tech’s V1 boat placed second with a time of 6:40.5 while JU’s V2 ended third in the race at 7:11.8.

The Dolphins claimed the Varsity 4 matchup as well, crossing the finish line at 7:58.1. The Panthers led the race through the first 500 meters but were unable to stay with JU the rest of the way and finished second with a time of 8:14.4.

Florida Tech is back in action next Saturday, April 10, in Deland, Florida where the Panthers will square off with Embry-Riddle and Stetson at the Hatters’ Sandra Stetson Aquatic Center.
