BREVARD COUNTY • PATRICK SPACE FORCE BASE, FLORIDA – Master Sgt. Jason Cangemi, Guardian Angel Combat Arms Non-Commission Officer in Charge, 306th Rescue Squadron, was named one of the Tenth Air Force Outstanding Airmen of the Year.

Sgt. Cangemi credits a diligent work ethic and providing creative solutions for the problem gaps that existed. These efforts lead to him standing out over the 19,000 Airmen assigned to the Tenth Air Force.

One of the biggest challenges last year was accomplishing the mission during a global pandemic but he found the solution in one word, networking.

“A lot of interpersonal and in-person meetings go a long way,” said Cangemi.

“This proved extremely challenging this past year as my accomplishments were through a tele-based network system. Through my command, we were still able to perform and deploy to support an operational mission.”

Cangemi says his shop was critical in supporting this recognition, Technical Sergeant Lance and Staff Sergeant Antonio. Cangemi said, “from my Operations Section all the way up to my Chief, Commander, and the entire 306th Rescue Squadron as a whole.”

Being part of the personnel recovery mission requires many levels of training and preparation, including travel away from home.

“I want to thank my wife and daughter for allowing me to pursue everything that got me to where I am today,” said Cangemi.

As the Tenth Air Force winner Sgt. Cangemi will move up to compete at the Air Force Reserve Command level.

The 306th RQS’s mission is to rescue isolated personnel or equipment anytime, anywhere.

The 306th is part of the 943rd Rescue Group, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, which is a geographically separated unit within the 920th Rescue Wing, Patrick Space Force Base, Florida.
