BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Merritt Island Christian School is in the midst of holding a fundraiser, with proceeds going to the purchase of new lighting for their athletic field.

During football season and events held at night, they currently bring in light banks powered by generators, which are costly, emit fumes, and are generally not as bright as permanent stadium lighting.

According to athletic director Greg Gage, permanent lights would make scheduling athletic events much easier. They are currently doing block schedules, which are basically scheduling events around lighting.

Gage said he would also like to be able to move the Cougar softball games to later than 4 p.m. so parents can attend when they get off work.

The Merritt Island Christian Lighting Initiative will continue through May 1 and the school will also reach out to businesses with sponsorship packages.

To make a donation CLICK HERE. Checks can also be mailed or dropped off at the school. For additional information, contact Greg Gage at 321-453-2710, ext. 303.
