Two Women from Merritt Island Injured After Plane Crash in Glades County

Two women from Merritt Island were injured Thursday after crashing a small plane off of State Road 70 in Glades County.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Two women from Merritt Island were injured Thursday after crashing a small plane off of State Road 70 in Glades County.

The women injured are identified as 26-year-old female and 23-year-old female.

The crash happened around 11 a.m. when Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 transfer from Highlands County Sheriff’s Office that a pilot had just made an emergency crash landing between SR 78 and Hwy 70 West.

Simultaneously, Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office Communications were also receiving notifications through FAA Miami and the United States Air Force Command that a small passenger plane went down near the boundaries of Okeechobee County.

After searching several areas, the aircraft was found in a cow pasture roughly 1,500 feet off of SR 70 in Glades County.

The pilot and  passenger inside the plane survived the landing but were flown from the scene by trauma alert due to their injuries sustained.

The NTSB is investigating the incident.
