BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County’s Tourism Development Council will host a board of volunteer citizens appointed by county commissioners and elected officials who volunteer to govern the disposition of approximately $15-20 million of annual tourism tax revenue.

The tourism tax is currently 5% and is collected when hotels and short term rentals have guests who stay overnight. A hotel room booked for one night for $200 would generate $10 in tourism tax.

The current owners of The International Palms and Hilton hotel in Cocoa Beach are asking the Brevard County Tourism Council to support their proposed development of a new convention center and parking garage at the site of the new Westin hotel which will replace the existing International Palms.

Their request is for the $85 million project to be financed by bonds guaranteed by Brevard County.
