Congressman Bill Posey Announces 2021 Congressional Art Competition Winners

Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) hosted the 2021 Congressional Art Competition, entitled “An Artistic Discovery,” on Saturday April 24.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Congressman Bill Posey (R-Rockledge) recently hosted the 2021 Congressional Art Competition, entitled “An Artistic Discovery.”

The theme of this year’s artwork focused on the U.S. Space Program.

Three finalists were chosen, and the judges also chose Merit Award winners from Brevard and Indian River Counties.

This year’s winning piece, titled “Space Sky,” by Kiran Arain of St. Edward’s School will be displayed in the United States Capitol in Washington, DC.

“I commend all of the students who competed this year,” said Congressman Posey.

“Creative thinking is at the center of innovation which leads to advancement and paves the way to a stronger future.”

2021 CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION FINALISTS:

The 3rd Place Award goes to Mish McLendon of St. Edward’s for “The Guardian.” His teacher is Elizabeth Sherrier.

The 2nd Place Award goes to Allison Deptula of Merritt Island High for “3,2,1” Her teacher is Lauren Sorey

Best in Show (1st Place) goes to Kiran Arain of St. Edward’s School for “Space Sky.” Her teacher is Elizabeth Sherrier.

This year the judges selected Merit Award winners from Brevard and Indian River counties:

Best of Brevard County: “Halo” by Penelope Richardson of Merritt Island High. Her teacher is Lauren Sorey.

Best of Indian River County: “Scorched” by Ruby Sundell of St. Edward’s School. Her teacher is Elizabeth Sherrier.
