No. 2-Ranked Eastern Florida Women’s Tennis Duo Advance to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Semifinals on Monday

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s tennis team’s No. 2 doubles team advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament semifinals.

The duo of Kayla Greco and Ivett Castenada became the first Titans doubles team to make the semifinals of a national tournament and will play for a spot in the championship match on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Mesa, Arizona.

The team came into the tournament as the No. 6 seed and knocked off No. 3 seed Lucia Popluharova and Maria Garcia Pulido of Seward Community College in three sets.

Greco and Castenada lost the first set 7-6 (4) but bounced back to win both the second and third sets 6-4 and a spot in the semifinals.

Greco and Castenada will play the No. 2 seed Magda Tuells and Isadora Oliveira from Hillsborough Community College in one of the two semifinals.

At No. 1 singles, Tsveti Trifonova played No. 1 seed Destinee Martins from Tyler Junior College in the quarterfinals and took the first set 7-6 (8) but Martins came back to win the next two sets 6-4 and 6-3.

Carlota Gascon Martinez lost at No. 2 singles to No. 1 seed Lauren Anzalotta of Tyler Junior College 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

Nicolle Romero also lost in the quarterfinals at No. 4 singles as Hillsboro Community College’s Ana Villalvazo won the match, 6-1, 6-3.

Ivett Castenada’s run at No. 6 singles also came to an end in the quarterfinals as she lost to No. 1 seed Jade Chan of Tyler Junior College 6-1, 6-4.
