Space Coast Symphony Youth Orchestra to Present ‘Musical Passages’ May 16 at Satellite High School

BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA – The Space Coast Symphony YOUTH Orchestra will present a spring concert for the community, Musical Passages, with a performance by two of its three musical groups Sunday, May 16, at 3: p.m. at the Satellite High School Auditorium, located at 300 Scorpion Court in Satellite Beach.

Musical Passages will feature the intermediate players of the Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Samantha Felber, as well as the advanced students of the Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Mark Nelson.

The audience can expect to hear Verdi’s “Overture” to Nabucco as well as Mussorgsky’s “Hut on Fowl’s Legs” and “The Great Gate of Kiev” from Pictures at an Exhibition performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Symphony Orchestra will perform an arrangement of “Russian Sailor’s Dance” by Gliere and an arrangement of “The Ash Grove.”

2020 Concerto Competition winner and Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy sophomore, Sophia Hibner will take to the stage alongside her fellow youth musicians to perform the first movement of the Barber Violin Concerto.

Musical Passage is a free concert with no ticket required. All attendees in the auditorium will be required to wear masks, per the Covid policies of Brevard Public Schools.

An outreach of the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra, the youth orchestra for youth aged eight to 18 years rehearses weekly in preparation for performances of classical symphonic masterworks.

Executive Director for the SCSYO and Academy Orchestra Director, Rebecca Simons is happy to present the student program to the people of Brevard.

“This is such a wonderful free concert,” said Ms. Simons. “Our talented young players of the SCSYO are always eager to share the beautiful music they have been preparing for their families and the community.”

Auditions for the next season of the Space Coast Symphony Youth Orchestra are scheduled for August 28, with a location yet to be determined.

The SCSYO rehearses weekly at Highland Avenue Fellowship Church in the downtown Eau Gallie Arts District of Melbourne. The orchestras are led by a talented artistic staff of professional musicians and music educators.
