ORLANDO, FLORIDA – University of Central Florida has announced that they have rescinded the mask requirement for students, faculty and visitors, effective immediately.

UCF is still encouraging the use of a facial covering, but will not require the use of a face covering anymore.

“Following guidance from the Board of Governors and in collaboration with the other State University System institutions, effective May 10, 2021, UCF encourages rather than requires our campus community to wear face coverings indoors and to follow CDC guidelines on our campuses and everywhere you go,” said UCF in a released statement.

“This is a change from our previous requirement to wear face coverings, and it reflects our campus community’s many efforts to get vaccinated and the low number of COVID-19 cases at UCF. It is on each of us to take the personal precautions necessary to protect our campus community.”

UCF also mentioned they believe the release of the restrictions will help UCF return to normal operations by the fall for students and faculty.

“Many UCF employees have been working on our campuses throughout the pandemic, serving our students and supporting faculty members. As we prepare for a fuller return to UCF, this will include more employees returning to their pre-COVID workspaces,” the university said in a statement.
