On Saturday evening, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office hosted the 6th Annual “Dancing For the Space Coast” which was attended by more than 620 people and raised over $300,000 to support five incredible local charities.

The proceeds of “Dancing For The Space Coast” go to help new charities each year that are selected from three different categories, a charity that helps children, a charity that helps prevent crime and a charity that helps support the arts in Brevard County.

This year’s proceeds from the event go to the United States Law Enforcement Eternal Flame, Habitat For Humanity of Brevard, Family Promise of Brevard, Women’s Center of Brevard as well as, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Charity that helps Public Safety Officers throughout Brevard County in a time of need.

The true “Stars” of the evening were the Celebrity Dancers who each committed their time and energy to raise funds for the event.

This year’s Celebrity Dancers included Susan Belcher, Wendy Fine, Christina Grainger, Marcus Ingeldsen, George Panton, Irving Frier, Lori Shepherd, Jeannette Jarnes, Cornell’s Rolle, and Kristine Zonka. Each dancer was paired with a ballroom instructor who graciously donated a large portion of their time to support one of the largest and most successful fundraisers of the year.

This year’s First Place winner was Marcus Ingeldsen, 2nd Place being claimed by Jeannette Jarnes with 3rd Place going to Kristine Zonka.

A big thank you goes out to Barry Johnson and Mickey Tyler-Ragan from Melbourne Ballroom, Louis Schrieber from Downtown Dance Studio in Titusville, and Primo Garcia, Heidi Arnold from Dancin’ Dance Studio in Indialantic, Lance Sexton, Elena Johnson-Sexton from Sundance Ballroom in Melbourne. Without their incredible support, this event would not be as successful.

I would like to also thank everyone from our agency and the many volunteers who made this event possible.

And of course a special thank you to all of our very gracious sponsors for the event who include our Premier Title Sponsor, Harris Corporation, our Platinum Sponsor Glover, Orndorf & Flanagan Wealth Management and our Main Sponsors Space Coast Daily, Christine Lance, Seaport Canaveral, MH Williams Construction Group, Randy Fine Campaign, Relentless Private Equity, ESO Equity Group and Eau Gallie Florist and many many more.

As I always say, “it takes a community to protect a community” and the success of this event is a testament to what happens when citizens work together to make their community the greatest place ever to call home!
