BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – The Carnival Cruise Line’s ‘Mardi Gras’ had a front row seat to today’s SpaceX launch from Cape Canaveral.

With a futuristic design inspired by nearby Kennedy Space Center, CT-3 welcomes the 180,000-ton “XL-class” Mardi Gras.

With a maximum capacity of 6,500 passengers and about 2,000 crew members, the 180,000-ton Mardi Gras will be nearly 35% bigger than Carnival’s just-unveiled Carnival Panorama, and the biggest new ship to debut from any line in 2020. It’ll be the seventh biggest cruise ship ever built.

The vessel also will be the first cruise ship to feature a roller coaster, which will be called BOLT: Ultimate Sea Coaster.

The first North American cruise ship powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Mardi Gras arrived at Port Canaveral’s Cruise Terminal 3 earlier this month, and will operate week-long itineraries from the Space Coast.
