Satellite Beach Police Honors Sgt. Ed Hartmann, Ofc. Phil Flagg During Annual Memorial Ceremony

Hartmann, Flagg killed in the line of duty by a drunk driver 29 years ago

BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA – The Satellite Beach Police Department and the community recently honored the memory of Sergeant E. Edward Hartmann and Officer Philip J. Flagg, who were killed in the line of duty by a drunk driver 29 years ago.

To commemorate the event, Satellite Police Chief Jeff Pearson issued this statement:

This year, the ceremony was moved to the Satellite Beach City Hall Breezeway and we were honored by the outpouring of support. Thank you, to every person who understands that time does not diminish the sacrifice of those who have died in the performance of duty.

The Satellite Beach community, fellow law enforcement officers, and friends and family of Ed and Phil are forever grateful for your support.

Thank you to Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey for your inspirational words, and to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard for the presentation of Colors.

Thank you to each and every Brevard County law enforcement agency that attended. Our law enforcement bond transcends what uniform we wear or what jurisdiction we serve in, and we were honored by your presence.

Thank you to Emma Barber of Emma’s Flower’s in Melbourne, for donating the memorial wreath EVERY year and for the stunning floral arrangements. Your floral designs are always elegant and you have been unwaveringly loyal.

Thank you to Marco Calderon for performing Amazing Grace on the bagpipes, and Larry McCormick for playing “Taps”. Year after year, your music expresses our reverence and gratitude better than words can adequately express.

Thank you to the Satellite Beach City Manager Courtney Barker and the City of Satellite Beach Department Heads, Mayor Steve Osmer, and Fire Department Chief David Abernathy.

It takes a team of people in many departments to organize this ceremony with the Satellite Beach Police Department staff. Your leadership empowers staff to work together to achieve goals.
