BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Brevard’s Special Olympians practiced stand-up paddleboarding with Mrs. Florida Classic Universe Laura Kutryb on Thursday afternoon at Kiwanis Island.

The athletes are preparing for the area competition on July 10 and the state competition on August 21 and Laura is one of the local volunteers preparing the athletes.

Kutryb assisted the Brevard County Special Olympians as they trained for the state of Florida Stand Up Paddle contests for the Special Olympics.

“I was thrilled to be a part of this exciting and meaningful exercise,” said Kutryb.

“It is so great to see the smiles on the faces of all the people participating and to see their level of determination and excitement about being involved in the Special Olympics.”

The mission of Special Olympics Florida is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for people with intellectual disabilities who wish to participate, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.
