FIGHTING FOR THE LAGOON, PART 1: I was proud to secure three separate appropriations projects to help repair our beloved Indian River Lagoon.
On Monday, I feature $300,000 we received for the City of Palm Bay to install baffle boxes in Turkey Creek to remove nutrients long before they make it into the lagoon. Every small step helps. On Tuesday and Wednesday, two more projects!
FIGHTING FOR THE LAGOON, PART 2: In my second of three appropriations projects focused on Indian River Lagoon restoration, I secured $450,000 for a 50-50 partnership with Brevard County (so the total project is $900K) for septic-to-sewer grants for older homes that are directly adjacent to the Indian River Lagoon!
Fun fact about septic tanks: they are designed to leak! Septic tanks remove bacteria and other poisonous things from our sewage (using bacteria) but they do not remove nitrogen and phosporous — those exit the tank with the “cleaned” water.
Normally, if your septic tank is far away from a water source, those nutrients get “eaten up” by the grass and other plants as the water migrates away from the tank, but if your tank is right next to the lagoon, the nutrients go straight in, feeding the algae that is the source of all of our problems.
Every small step helps! Tomorrow, I will share the third lagoon project I sponsored!
AS A MEMBER OF THE FIRST CLASS in the Club for Growth Foundation’s Fellows program, I was honored to join my friends and colleagues from the Florida House, Representative Jason Fischer, Spencer Roach, and Tommy Gregory in Palm Beach for their induction in the newest class!
The Club for growth is focused on limited government and free markets, preserving the values that made America the freest, fairest, and most dynamic economy in the history of the world. That is a tough battle these days, but I am glad to have them and these fellows as allies in that fight!
