Canaveral Port Authority Names Second Class of Brevard County Student Junior Ambassadors

BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – The second class of the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners’ student Junior Ambassadors has been named.

The Junior Ambassadors for the 2021-2022 school year are:

• Cooper Cohen, Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy

• Lance Cook, Edgewood Jr/Sr High School

• Alex Higginbotham, Cocoa High School

• Lucus Koch, Rockledge High School

• Phoebe Koch, Rockledge High School

• Reef LaGala, Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy

• Cash Luck, Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy

• Beck Mowrey, Merritt Island High School

• Maddox Murrin, Cocoa Beach Junior/Senior High School

• Chloe Rhodes, Astronaut High School

• Tim Sagorski, Merritt Island High School.

Canaveral Port Authority Commissioner Robyn Hattaway began this initiative in 2019 in collaboration with Brevard County School Board Member Misty Belford.

“I’m proud to welcome back students after a hiatus due to the COVID pandemic,” stated Commissioner Hattaway. “Workforce development is a critical issue in our nations ports and the maritime industry. This program introduces Brevard students to paths to trade skill careers equally with college degree-oriented careers.”

The Canaveral Port Authority Junior Ambassador Program will enable 10th and 11th grade students from six public high schools and one private high school within Brevard County to explore career opportunities at the Port.

The program also seeks to provide workforce development to Port partners and community outreach.

During the school year, students will meet with Port leaders in such areas as cruise, cargo, military, environment, hospitality, commercial space flight and construction.

The students’ final project will be a presentation that features what they’ve learned. Junior Ambassadors will share their presentations with the Commission and with students at their respective schools.
