BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police Officer Edward Hartzell saved an unresponsive man’s life after he responded to a citizen’s emergency call for help on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Cocoa police officials, when Hartzell arrived on the scene, he found an unresponsive man on the ground, not breathing.

At that point, Hartzell’s training took over, and the officer immediately recognized the signs of a possible overdose and administered Narcan and applied sternum rubs.

As the victim was still not responding, Hartzell immediately began giving CPR and the man began to breathe. The victim was then taken to the hospital under a Marchman Act by fire rescue personnel.

“Every life matters. This male has a family that loves him and this officer gave him another chance to get the help he needs to recover. Great job Officer Hartzell. You made a difference,” said Cocoa police officials.
