Melbourne Beach Native Caroline Marks Advances to Round 3 at Tokyo Olympics

Marks will compete in the Women's Shortboard heat 5 Sunday at 12 a.m. ET

 Caroline Marks was inducted into the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame at age 14, started surfing full-time by the age of nine, Marks has her sights set on bringing the first-ever Olympic gold medal in surfing home with her.

TOKYO, JAPAN – Brevard County native Caroline Marks began her Olympic journey in the Women’s Surfing Shortboard by winning her heat with a 13.40 total score and advancing to Round 3 of the Tokyo Olympics.

Marks represents Team USA of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics women’s surfing event at Tsurigasaki Beach. Carissa Moore, also representing USA and Marks’ teammate, made easy work in her heat by winning her heat with a total score of 11.74.

Marks will compete in Round 3 Heat 4 at 7:48 p.m. ET on Monday, pending weather conditions.

By age 16, Marks’ career was already the stuff of surfing legends. At 11, this goofy-footed ‘tween was the youngest girl to make the USA Surf Team. She is also the youngest female ever to surf in a World Surfing League Women’s Pro event. Marks was also the youngest inductee into the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame at age 14.

USA’s Kolohe Andino and John John Florence also advanced to Round 3 in the men’s division.
