Melbourne Man Charged with First-Degree Premeditated Murder After Killing His Girlfriend Nicole Yates

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A Melbourne man has been arrested and charged with first-degree premeditated murder after he allegedly killed his girlfriend Nicole Yates on May 8, according to police.

The investigation began when the Melbourne Police Department, Melbourne Fire Department, and Brevard County Fire Rescue responded to the 2300 block of Delaware Drive on May 8 in reference to a woman needing medical assistance.

The caller, and later to be known the suspect was identified as 38-year-old Anthony Barron, who advised 911 dispatchers that he found his girlfriend, Nicole Yates, unconscious on the back patio not breathing and started CPR per the dispatcher’s instructions.

After medical personnel were unsuccessful reviving Yates, she was pronounced dead at the scene by medical staff before arriving at the hospital.

Results from the autopsy by the Medical Examiner declared Yates’ death was a homicide.

Through the investigation, Anthony Barron was identified as the primary suspect and further investigation led to the development of probable cause for his arrest.

An arrest warrant was obtained on Friday, July 2, and Barron was arrested later that day without incident.

Barron was turned over to the custody of the Brevard County Jail where he remains.

Barron has a long criminal history dating back as far as 2012 with convictions and charges that included DUI, Battery Domestic Violence and Battery.

Barron’s court date is set for August 3 in front Judge Thomas Brown.
