Melbourne Police Babcock Street Detail Targets Speeding and Aggressive Driving

Over the two-day operation, MPD made 41 traffic stops and issued 23 citations

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne Police Department’s Traffic & Detective Units initiated Babcock Street Detail in regards to speeding and aggressive driving on Babcock Street in the area just north of Palm Bay Road in the City of Melbourne.

According to the Melbourne police, over the two-day operation, 41 traffic stops, 23 citations and 21 written warnings occurred.

“The goal of this initiative was to identify, educate, and enforce observed speeding and aggressive driving violations,” said MPD officials on social media.

“The primary focus of enforcement was the Babcock Street corridor between the intersections of Palm Bay Road and Southgate Boulevard.”

Participating units utilized strict and selective enforcement in the Babcock corridor in an effort to provide police presence throughout this section of the roadway.

Participating officers put a high emphasis on violations by identifying speeding, improper lane changes, careless and aggressive drivers. This effort was to increase safety on the roadways within the City.
